I have had a Canon eos-1d mark II since sometime in 2005. With all the great new cameras Canon has announced in recent years, I have had imaging envy. I keep telling my self over & over again, there had to be a new EOS-1D class body just over the hill. As I have commented before on this blog, we are witnessing the fusion of stills & video cameras. Yesterday, in the land down under, the Canon dudes released what I have been waiting for! The new camera is the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV. This camera like all the recent Canon releases can shoot stills & videos!
Dude!
The one issue that plagued Canon with the Canon EOS-1D Mark III was focusing problems. Please, please, please Canon I hope you got the new focusing technology right this time. If you didn’t, there is an awesome line of Nikon D3 just waiting to be migrated to.

Graham,
I totally understand about your “imaging envy.” I left standard film cameras kicking and screaming because I felt that there will never be a match to traditional film. I always thought that every picture I take would be pixelated (not just me) and never look good when printed especially if it was a wedding photo shoot. Well, I saw some of the new (at the time) digital cameras from Canon and they really intrigued me. I loved my AE-1 Program. I literally wore it out. It was the camera I learned on. When I was ready to purchase my new camera, I bought the Canon EOS-30D (top of the line at the time, by the way). I fell more in love with that because of its abilities and ease of use. I no longer have to put my glasses on to focus and then take them off to shoot. This has auto focus WHERE I LOOK! That amazed me. Well, I shot my first digital wedding with it some years back and the pictures were better than I could ever have imagined. The biggest plus is that I don’t have the anxiety of not knowing if the film was bad until the pictures came back from the lab. What a relief.
I don’t know if I would like a still camera to also take my videos. I think that is where I would want to keep them separate. It’s kind of like the old saying, “Jack of all trades and master of none.” I want my camera to be a master at taking stills only and not just a jack.
Tom Alvarez
Graham, I just had to comment. Damn you Tom, you beat me to it! Well, I am envious of your OLD camera, not this new one.
When I started out I had the good old Rebel XT. Then I moved onto the 30D. Now I have the 40D (for the last year or so) and I am quite content. But, to have this baby would be something. I just don’t have the extra thousands laying around. UGH! Why couldn’t I win the lottery?????
